EastWest Bank cardholders are now turning to contactless payments through Google Pay, which has recently become available in the Philippines for compatible Android and Wear OS devices. EastWest is among the first local banks to support the service, allowing customers to add their Visa or Mastercard credit cards to Google Wallet and pay with a simple tap of their phone.
With Google Pay, users can pay in stores, online, or in apps without pulling out a physical card or typing in card details. Payments at grocery stores and shops are faster, while online purchases no longer require entering long card numbers or security codes. Commuters can also use tap-to-pay on MRT-3 turnstiles, making public transport more convenient and reducing the need to handle wallets in crowded areas.
The service is designed to be both easy and secure. Google Wallet uses tokenization, which means real card numbers are not shared with merchants. Most contactless terminals already support tap-to-pay, and more apps and websites now accept Google Pay for faster checkout. Users can go out with just their phone and still pay in many places.
By enabling Google Pay, EastWest continues its move toward simpler and more mobile-friendly banking. The bank says more card products, including select debit cards, may be supported in the future as use of Google Pay grows. For many users, the change is subtle but meaningful, helping daily life feel lighter with just a tap to pay and move on.
