The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) is repurposing a planned sports complex in Taguig City into school and community facilities, signaling a strategic pivot from infrastructure to human capital development.
On December 18, 2025, BCDA and the Taguig City government signed a memorandum granting 25-year usufruct over a 1,110-square-meter parcel of land. The deal allows the city to construct and operate classrooms and community spaces on land initially reserved for the Senator Renato “Compañero” Cayetano Memorial Science and Technology High School sports complex.
The move ensures the property will deliver direct benefits to students and local residents, rather than serving a single-use sports function.
“Repurposing this site reflects BCDA’s commitment to projects that generate long-term social returns, not just infrastructure,” said a BCDA spokesperson.
The project adds to BCDA’s growing portfolio of education-supportive developments, including the National Academy of Sports in New Clark City.
The shift underscores the agency’s approach of aligning land use with broader societal impact, while strengthening partnerships with local governments.
For Taguig, the conversion means more than classrooms—it is a community investment, transforming a dormant sports site into a multi-use hub that supports learning, engagement, and neighborhood development.
