Fifteen power generation companies have shown interest in Manila Electric Company’s (Meralco) bidding process to supply 200 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy as part of its Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) compliance.
The interested firms offered a combined capacity of 725 MW and were invited to join the pre-bid conference scheduled for January 15, 2026. Companies that plan to submit formal bids must do so by February 16, 2026.
Meralco said the strong response shows confidence in its procurement process. The utility added that it expects competitive bids that will help ensure reliable, sustainable, and affordable electricity for customers, while maintaining transparency and regulatory compliance.
The Competitive Selection Process will result in a four-year Power Supply Agreement covering Meralco’s 200-MW baseload requirement starting January 26, 2026, subject to approval by the Energy Regulatory Commission. The bidding is being conducted under Meralco’s Department of Energy-approved power supply procurement plan.
