Entertainment industry faces rising AI-driven cyber threats

Antivirus technology firm Kaspersky has warned that artificial intelligence will be the dominant factor shaping cybersecurity risks for the global entertainment industry by 2026, with growing commercial implications for studios, streaming platforms, ticketing companies and rights holders.

In its latest Kaspersky Security Bulletin, the cybersecurity firm said AI is moving beyond back-office automation and becoming embedded in core entertainment products, from ticket pricing and visual effects to games and content delivery. While this is improving efficiency and personalization, it is also giving cybercriminals new tools to analyze markets, probe infrastructure and generate convincing malicious content.

Kaspersky said AI-driven ticketing systems could intensify competition between official sellers and scalpers, as both sides use algorithms to predict demand and adjust prices in real time, potentially undermining pricing strategies and customer trust. In film and TV production, the growing use of cloud-based AI tools is expanding supply chains and increasing the risk of leaks, as attackers target smaller vendors to steal unreleased content.

The report also highlighted rising risks to content delivery networks, which now store and distribute high-value assets such as unreleased episodes and game builds. AI-enhanced attacks could make it easier to identify weak credentials or misconfigurations, allowing a single breach to expose multiple titles. In gaming and fan communities, generative AI tools are expected to drive new forms of abuse, reputational risk and accidental disclosure of personal data.

Kaspersky added that tighter regulation around AI-generated content, copyright and data use is likely to force entertainment companies to introduce dedicated AI governance and compliance roles. It advised businesses to treat AI systems and the data behind them as part of their core security perimeter to protect revenues, operations and brand value as AI adoption accelerates.
