A US-based clean energy company is weighing a major hydrogen-powered investment inside the Aurora Pacific Economic Zone and Freeport (APECO), highlighting growing investor confidence in clean technologies and Aurora’s long-term energy prospects.
Maryland-based Ally Power, Inc. is studying a proposed USD200-million investment for a 128-megawatt hydrogen-based power generation facility following the signing of a memorandum of understanding with APECO on January 17 in Casiguran, Aurora.
The project may be located on a 20-hectare site within the ecozone and is included among the priority initiatives under the agreement.
The MOU was signed by APECO President and CEO G. Taway IV and Ally Power’s Head of Business Development for Asia, Ed Travis. It sets the framework for cooperation on clean energy development, power generation, and related infrastructure, subject to technical studies and regulatory approvals.
Taway said the proposed facility supports efforts to address Aurora’s power supply constraints and improve long-term energy security, which he described as essential to attracting investors and sustaining growth within the ecozone. Stable and sustainable power infrastructure, he added, is a key factor in positioning APECO as a competitive investment destination.
Under the agreement, Ally Power will lead technical, financial, and investment studies, while APECO will facilitate coordination and support within the ecozone in line with its development mandate.
Specific timelines, commercial terms, and project structure will be finalized through separate agreements if the project proceeds. Any future power supply arrangements will comply with the Electric Power Industry Reform Act and Energy Regulatory Commission rules.
Beyond power generation, Ally Power emphasized workforce and skills development. The company is exploring a partnership with Aurora State College of Technology to establish a Clean Energy Center of Excellence, aimed at building local expertise in hydrogen and green energy technologies while creating jobs and supporting the province’s sustainable development goals.
