Converge backs Makati underground network as key step toward future-ready cities

Converge ICT Solutions Inc. CEO Dennis Anthony Uy on Tuesday urged the wider adoption of future-proof infrastructure in the country, citing the newly completed MACEA Underground Conduit Network (MUCN) in Makati as a major step forward for reliable and resilient connectivity. Uy lauded the project for providing a shared underground pathway for telecom providers, which reduces service disruptions and limits repeated road works in the country’s premier business district.

Led by the Makati Central Estate Association, Inc. (MaCEA), the project aligns Makati with global best practices seen in advanced cities such as Singapore, where power and telecom cables are placed underground. By putting housing cables below ground instead of on overhead lines, the network improves reliability, shortens repair times, enhances public safety, and supports better urban planning while allowing building owners and tenants to choose from multiple service providers.

The 25.1-kilometer underground conduit system, which began construction in 2019 and completed in December 2024, is designed as a single raceway for all data providers operating within MaCEA-controlled areas. Uy said the project supports the “Dig Once” policy under the Konektadong Pinoy Act and reflects how collaboration between the private sector and local stakeholders can help build smarter, more connected, and future-ready cities.
