Visa, RCBC partner to expand debit payments nationwide

Visa has signed a new debit partnership with Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC), a move that significantly expands access to digital payments for RCBC customers in the Philippines. Under the agreement, RCBC will issue Visa debit cards, allowing customers to pay at millions of Visa-accepted merchant locations worldwide, both in stores and online.

The partnership is aimed at accelerating the shift away from cash by giving consumers a simple and secure way to pay directly from their bank accounts. Debit cards already play a major role in the region, accounting for nearly half of all card transactions across Asia Pacific, highlighting the importance of making debit payments more widely available and reliable.

Visa said the collaboration supports the Philippine government’s push toward a cash-lite economy, while RCBC emphasized the added security and confidence the partnership brings. Transactions are backed by Visa’s global network and security standards, combined with RCBC’s digital banking capabilities.

The deal builds on RCBC’s earlier digital initiatives, including support for mobile wallets such as Google Pay and the launch of Visa Direct for real-time cross-border transfers. Together, the two companies aim to give Filipino consumers more choice, stronger security, and broader global access in everyday payments.
