Valero Grand Suites by Swiss-Belhotel has transitioned its entire electricity supply to renewable energy, marking a major sustainability milestone for the 271-room hotel in Makati City’s central business district.
The shift follows an agreement with First Gen Corp., the country’s leading renewable energy company, signed late last year. Power is now sourced from a geothermal facility in Bicol operated by Energy Development Corp., a First Gen subsidiary.
With the move, Valero Grand Suites becomes one of the first hotels in the Makati CBD to adopt clean energy under the government’s Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), which allows qualified consumers to choose renewable energy suppliers.
The transition supports the hotel’s commitment to responsible tourism, lower carbon emissions, and environmentally sound operations, in line with global sustainability standards set by Swiss-Belhotel International.
First Gen operates the country’s largest portfolio of renewable energy plants—geothermal, hydro, solar, and wind—with a total capacity of 1,700 megawatts, reinforcing its role in advancing cleaner energy use nationwide.
