Shang Grand Tower shift to geothermal power with First Gen

Makati luxury condominium The Shang Grand Tower is now fully powered by renewable geothermal energy after partnering with First Gen Corporation.

Under an agreement signed in October 2025, First Gen supplies geothermal power to all common areas of the 46-storey building, including parking levels, hallways, lobbies, and amenity floors. The energy comes from the Unified Leyte Geothermal Power Plant.

Shang Properties said the move supports its goal of creating more sustainable residential and commercial spaces, while also helping manage electricity costs and reduce the building’s carbon footprint.

First Gen said geothermal energy is well-suited for large developments like The Shang Grand Tower because it provides stable, round-the-clock power. The company added that it looks forward to supporting the property’s long-term decarbonization efforts.

The Shang Grand Tower has 254 residential units and is known as one of Makati’s most prestigious condominium developments due to its design and location.

First Gen’s renewable energy portfolio includes geothermal, hydro, solar, and wind power, with a total capacity of 1,700 megawatts. To support energy reliability, the company also has stakes in gas-fired power plants with a combined capacity of 2,017 megawatts.
