FedEx deepens commitment to Clark logistics hub

Federal Express is investing USD240 million to expand its hub at the Clark Aviation Complex, while the Bases Conversion and Development Authority is allocating P7 billion for supporting airside infrastructure, underscoring Clark’s growing role as a key logistics gateway in Southeast Asia.

At a press conference, BCDA President and CEO Joshua Bingcang said the agency will soon award the construction of a P2 billion aircraft apron, the first component of the broader airside development program.

Construction is targeted for completion within six months. The remaining infrastructure works, including a new taxiway and runway upgrades, are estimated to cost about P5 billion.

Bingcang highlighted the scale of FedEx’s investment, noting that around USD80 million was spent on the hub building alone, while the equipment and automated systems inside are valued at roughly twice that amount. He said this reflects the logistics company’s long-term plans for Clark and its need for reliable, high-capacity operations.

FedEx currently operates three to four flights daily from Clark but plans to scale up to as many as 20 aircraft movements per day as it positions the airport as its Southeast Asian hub.

“They don’t want disruptions even for minutes,” Bingcang said, stressing the importance of redundancy, safety, and expanded airside capacity to support time-sensitive cargo.

The company’s existing 3,000 square meter facility will be expanded to about 80,000 square meters. The FedEx expansion is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2027.

Officials said the combined public and private investments are aimed at easing congestion at Metro Manila airports, strengthening supply chain resilience, and enhancing Clark’s competitiveness as a regional cargo and e-commerce hub.
