VinFast picks Philippines to kickstart global scooter drive

Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast has chosen the Philippines as the first pillar of its global electric scooter expansion, putting the country at the center of its broader push for green mobility across Southeast Asia.

VinFast confirmed on Tuesday, February 4 the local launch of its e-scooter business, a move first disclosed in a January 31 press release distributed by Media OutReach Newswire. The company said the Philippines is one of five priority markets for its two-wheel strategy, alongside Indonesia, India, Thailand, and Malaysia.

The choice reflects familiar regional realities: crowded cities, heavy reliance on motorcycles and scooters, and rising government and consumer interest in cleaner transport options. For VinFast, the Philippines offers both scale and a practical testing ground.

The company plans to roll out a range of battery-swapping electric scooters designed for local riding conditions and daily use. Initial models include the VinFast Flazz, Evo, Feliz II, and Viper, with more variants planned as the market develops. The battery-swapping model is intended to ease common urban pain points such as charging access and range concerns.

To support nationwide expansion, VinFast is building a retail and service network through partnerships with five local dealers: Maverick Racing Factory Inc., MotorCentral, New Nemar Development Corp., Supremebike Corporation, and ARC Trading. These partners will handle sales and aftersales support across Luzon and Mindanao. Charging and battery-swapping infrastructure will be rolled out in collaboration with VinFast affiliate V-Green.

The Philippine launch builds on VinFast’s strong domestic footing. In Vietnam, the company delivered more than 406,000 electric scooters in 2025, securing a leading market position.

Entering 2026, VinFast has completed a three-tier product roadmap—mainstream, premium, and sport—designed to support faster regional expansion.

By placing the Philippines at the forefront, VinFast is signaling that two wheels may be just as central as four in its Southeast Asian growth story.
