Truck sales rev higher on infra push

The Philippine truck industry is shifting into a higher gear in 2026, buoyed by infrastructure expansion, rising logistics demand, and continued fleet upgrades, according to the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA).

After a mostly steady 2025, industry executives see momentum building as public and private sector projects translate into fresh demand for commercial vehicles.

TMA data showed total truck sales reached 11,361 units in 2025, marginally higher than the 11,252 units sold in 2024.

Growth was driven by Category III light-duty commercial trucks, which climbed 3.6 percent year on year to 6,783 units from 6,545. These four- to six-wheel workhorses remain the backbone of enterprise logistics, supporting delivery networks, construction supply chains, and regional distribution.

Medium-duty Category IV trucks and buses slipped 7 percent to 3,690 units from 3,870, reflecting cautious fleet spending in select segments. In contrast, Category V heavy-duty trucks posted the fastest expansion, jumping 20 percent to 888 units from 737, a sign of sustained demand for higher-capacity hauling in infrastructure, energy, and industrial projects.

In a February 9 statement, TMA said the 2025 results highlighted the sector’s resilience despite shifting economic conditions, supported by steady requirements from logistics, construction, manufacturing, and public services.

“Having achieved our industry truck sales targets in 2025, we are confident about the positive outlook for 2026,” TMA President Robert Carlos said, without disclosing specific projections. He added that member companies are ready to meet growing demand with more efficient and innovative commercial vehicles.

TMA reaffirmed its push for road safety, greener truck technologies, and stronger support for local manufacturing, alongside active participation in government programs tied to environmental protection, safety standards, and industrial development.
