Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. (AIC) has completed a series of terminal improvement projects at Laguindingan International Airport (LIA), boosting efficiency and comfort at Mindanao’s second-busiest gateway and the country’s seventh busiest overall.
The upgrades are part of AIC’s broader push to modernize Philippine airports and strengthen their role in regional economic growth and travel connectivity.
According to AIC, the improvements are designed to make travel smoother for passengers while helping airport operations run more efficiently.
The terminal has been redesigned to make navigation easier and passenger movement smoother, especially during peak travel periods. Clearer pathways and better access to key areas aim to reduce congestion and shorten waiting times.
Seating arrangements have been optimized to accommodate more passengers without sacrificing comfort. The new configuration allows the terminal to handle higher foot traffic in a more organized manner.
The airport increased its baggage trolley fleet to 231 units from 86, reducing wait times and ensuring travelers can easily move their luggage during busy hours.
More wheelchairs are now available to better assist senior citizens and persons with disabilities, supporting a more inclusive and accessible travel experience.
Brighter, improved lighted signages have been installed throughout the terminal to enhance visibility and help passengers find their way more quickly, easing overall passenger flow.
As a key gateway in Northern Mindanao, Laguindingan International Airport plays a vital role in connecting businesses, tourists, and overseas Filipino workers to major destinations. Improved facilities are expected to enhance the overall travel experience, support tourism growth, and strengthen commercial activity in the region.
The upgrades form part of a multi-year modernization program under concession agreements awarded in 2024. Beginning 2025, AIC Airports—under the oversight of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP)—will roll out further improvements at Laguindingan and other regional gateways, including Bohol–Panglao International Airport.
The continuing enhancements aim to make Philippine regional airports more competitive globally while delivering faster, more convenient travel for passengers.
