Megawide scale up industrialized construction to deliver homes faster

Megawide Construction Corp. will build a second precast concrete facility in Cavite this year to support its expanding affordable housing projects with the government.

Chairman and CEO Edgar B. Saavedra said the new plant will serve developments in southern Metro Manila, particularly the company’s projects under the government’s Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino (4PH). The facility is expected to be operational next year, in time for the full rollout of construction activities.

Megawide’s existing precast facility in Taytay, Rizal already runs at 80 percent capacity, prompting the need for expansion. The company is also studying the possibility of putting up another plant in northern Luzon within the next two to three years.

Chief finance officer Jez G. Dela Cruz said the Cavite facility may require an investment of P1.5 billion to P2 billion, similar to the company’s Taytay plant. The company is still finalizing the land acquisition for the project.

Megawide earlier partnered with Pag-IBIG Fund to deliver more than 7,000 housing units in Dasmariñas, Cavite under the Expanded 4PH program over the next two years. Around 1,000 units are targeted for turnover by September, as the use of pre-cast technology speeds up construction.

Saavedra said the company aims to build 100,000 housing units over the next five years, with about half to be launched in the next three years. He noted that the use of prefabricated systems, similar to those used in countries like Germany and Japan, allows faster and more consistent construction while keeping homes affordable.

For Pag-IBIG Fund, the partnership supports its goal of providing sustainable financing for socialized housing and delivering quality yet affordable homes to Filipino buyers.
