NAIA widens rollout of self-service gates

More passengers at Ninoy Aquino International Airport can now use self check-in kiosks, automated pre-security gates and self-boarding lanes, as additional airlines complete integration with the airport’s automated passenger processing system.

The expansion covers Terminals 1, 2 and 3, allowing eligible travelers to check in, print boarding passes, tag bags, clear initial security and board flights through automated channels. A phased activation of automated bag drop facilities is also underway.

At Terminal 1, the system now serves select international routes of Philippine Airlines, excluding Middle East and Japan services, and qualified passengers of Asiana Airlines.

Terminal 2 covers all domestic flights of Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific and AirAsia.

At Terminal 3, the facilities are available for Cebu Pacific’s domestic and international routes; AirAsia’s international services; select visa-free foreign passengers of United Airlines; and all passengers flying Qatar Airways and Air Canada.

Operator New NAIA Infra Corp. said more carriers are expected to come online as system integration progresses.

The automation drive forms part of NAIA’s broader modernization push aimed at easing congestion and improving passenger flow at one of Southeast Asia’s busiest gateways.

Faster processing could trim queuing times, improve on-time departures and raise overall terminal throughput—key metrics as the airport operator works to lift service standards and narrow the gap with more technologically advanced Asian hubs.
