SHERA targets Philippines as export hub

Thailand-based building materials firm SHERA Public Co. Ltd. is ramping up its operations in the Philippines, positioning the country as both a growth market and a potential regional export hub.

The announcement came from Veerasak Kittinanthakool, SHERA’s Executive Vice-President for Marketing, during the ASEAN Editors Forum on Monday, February 24 in Makati City.

The company’s Pampanga facility in Mabalacat, operational since September last year, has already reached full capacity, prompting plans for a second production line.

The plant currently employs around 300 workers across industrial and office operations. Over the next five years, SHERA aims to scale production further, signaling strong confidence in the Philippines’ construction demand, favorable demographics, and young workforce.

“This is our first overseas manufacturing venture outside Thailand,” Kittinanthakool noted, emphasizing that the Philippines’ strategic location makes it ideal as an export base to serve neighboring markets. The move underscores the country’s growing appeal for foreign direct investment in industrial manufacturing.

However, SHERA highlighted challenges that could influence its expansion trajectory. Kittinanthakool stressed the importance of continuous government support and enforcement of industrial standards. Stricter quality regulations, he said, would curb substandard products, protect long-term market value, and encourage healthier competition in the construction materials sector.

SHERA’s investment reflects a broader trend of Southeast Asian manufacturers seeking regional hubs outside their home countries. By combining production capacity with export potential, companies like SHERA can mitigate supply-chain risks and capitalize on growing infrastructure demand in the ASEAN region.

If policy support and quality enforcement keep pace with investment, the Philippines could emerge as a major manufacturing and export center for building materials—turning a domestic growth story into a regional industrial play.
