Denza debuts, BYD ups Philippine push

Chinese new energy vehicle powerhouse BYD is stepping harder on the accelerator in the Philippines, formally launching its premium marque Denza and signaling a broader Southeast Asian push.

The brand was unveiled on February 27 in Taguig City, led by Liu Xueliang, general manager of BYD Asia Pacific Auto Sales. Taking center stage was the D9, a premium multipurpose vehicle that anchors Denza’s local entry into the higher end of the market.

Denza Philippines plans to introduce three more models this year, the B5, B8 and Z9 GT, expanding its lineup beyond the D9 and positioning the brand as a full range premium contender.

For BYD, the move builds on momentum. The company said it reached a cumulative 15 million new energy vehicles produced by end 2025. In 2025 alone, it sold 4.6 million NEVs, including 1 million exported units.

Liu described BYD as the global leader in NEV sales and production, pointing to scale and technology as key advantages as it deepens its regional footprint.

The Philippines plays a strategic role. BYD entered the market two years ago through a partnership with Ayala Corp. Since then, it has expanded to 79 stores nationwide and delivered 30,000 NEVs to local customers, building both visibility and volume in a market still early in its electric transition.

Denza—short for Diverse, Elegant, Novel, Zenith, and Aspirational—represents BYD’s bid for premium buyers seeking electric performance with added refinement. The D9 carries a sticker price of P4.298 million, with an introductory offer of P3.998 million for the first 300 customers.

The package includes an eight year or 150,000 kilometer battery warranty, 24 hour roadside assistance, a free AC wall charger and portable charger, and preventive maintenance coverage for a set period.

To reinforce its upscale positioning, Denza opened flagship dealerships in Alabang, Makati, Greenhills in San Juan and Cebu.

With Denza now in play, BYD is not just selling electric cars in the Philippines. It is building a premium electric ecosystem, and betting that Filipino buyers are ready to plug into it.
