Manila Water boosts fire safety with 3,300 hydrants in East Zone

Manila Water has strengthened its fire safety efforts by maintaining and checking more than 3,300 working fire hydrants across its East Zone service area as part of Fire Prevention Month this March.

As of December 2025, the company manages 3,300 hydrants. Some of these are painted purple and use treated wastewater instead of drinking water. This gives firefighters an extra water source during emergencies while helping conserve clean water for households.

The company said its hydrant maintenance program supports national and local government fire safety efforts. It works closely with the Bureau of Fire Protection and local government units to make sure hydrants are easy to find, accessible, and fully working so firefighters can respond quickly.

Operable hydrants are especially important in crowded urban areas and low-income communities, where fast access to water can reduce fire damage and save lives.

Manila Water added that keeping water pressure stable and reducing leaks in its system help ensure reliable water supply for firefighting, without interrupting service to customers.

Hydrant inspection, tagging, and testing are done regularly throughout the year as part of the company’s commitment to public safety and dependable service in the East Zone.
