Technology firm Pacific Online Systems Corp. has acquired a 2-percent stake in Belle Corp. for P280 million, a move that underscores continued investor interest in gaming- and leisure-linked assets.
Pacific Online disclosed that it purchased 200 million treasury shares of Belle at P1.40 apiece. The deal was executed through a block sale on the Philippine Stock Exchange on Wednesday, March 4.
The company said it reported the transaction to the exchange because the investment represents more than 10 percent of its consolidated assets, making it a material disclosure for investors.
The share purchase gives Pacific Online a 2-percent stake in Belle, marking a notable equity investment for a company primarily known for providing technology systems to the country’s lottery sector.
Pacific Online develops and manages online computer systems, terminals and software used in the Philippine lottery industry, positioning it as a key technology partner in gaming-related operations.
For Belle, the transaction forms part of a broader capital management strategy. The company said its board approved the sale of treasury shares to “liquefy some dormant assets and to raise fresh capital,” which will partly fund upcoming projects.
Treasury shares refer to previously issued shares that a company has repurchased and holds in its own treasury. Selling these shares allows firms to unlock capital without issuing new stock.
The block sale suggests Belle opted for a swift placement to a strategic buyer rather than a broader market offering, ensuring immediate liquidity while minimizing potential volatility in its share price.
Belle is primarily engaged in real estate development, focusing on high-end leisure properties, gaming-related ventures, and investment holdings.
The transaction comes as companies in the gaming and leisure ecosystem continue to reposition balance sheets and secure funding for new developments, particularly as tourism and entertainment activity gradually strengthen.
For Pacific Online, the stake could also represent a strategic financial investment tied to the broader gaming and leisure value chain.
