Aboitiz InfraCapital (AIC), the infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group, has completed a major runway surface upgrade at Laguindingan International Airport, the second-busiest airport in Mindanao.
The maintenance works included runway repainting, inspections, rubber removal from aircraft tires, and repairs to surface cracks. The upgrades are part of regular rehabilitation efforts to keep the runway in good condition and ensure safe aircraft operations at the country’s seventh-busiest airport.
AIC said the project reflects its proactive approach to maintaining critical airport infrastructure and preparing the airport for future passenger and flight demand.
The works were carried out in coordination with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines to ensure compliance with national aviation safety standards while minimizing disruptions to flights.
For travelers, the improvements mean smoother and safer takeoffs and landings, along with more reliable airport operations. Well-maintained runway surfaces also help reduce delays and support efficient aircraft movement.
The runway rehabilitation is part of AIC’s broader strategy to strengthen airport infrastructure across its growing network in the Philippines. Laguindingan serves as a key gateway for Northern Mindanao, supporting tourism, business travel, and cargo movement in the region.
AIC also operates and develops Mactan-Cebu International Airport and Bohol-Panglao International Airport, both important hubs for domestic and international tourism.
The company is planning further development and modernization projects for Laguindingan and Bohol-Panglao airports starting in 2025, under multi-year concession agreements awarded by the Philippine government in 2024. These projects aim to improve capacity, connectivity, and overall airport services in key regional gateways.
