BCDA eyes P2.5-B New Clark sports complex

The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) plans to develop a P2.5-billion integrated sports complex in New Clark City by merging two development sites covering about 20 hectares under separate partnerships with national sports bodies.

BCDA president and chief executive Joshua Bingcang said the project will consolidate agreements earlier signed with the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Tennis Association to build new training and competition facilities.

“We’re merging those two properties—around 20 hectares—to develop these facilities,” Bingcang told reporters. “We’ve already finalized the concept and we’re set to finalize the terms soon with the Sports Commission.”

The planned development will be implemented through a public-private partnership and is expected to cost about P2.5 billion, he said.

Facilities under the proposed complex include an indoor high-performance gym, basketball and pickleball courts, tennis venues, and other training areas designed to support both elite athletes and public recreational use.

Bingcang said the initiative builds on partnerships forged last year aimed at strengthening sports infrastructure and athlete development in the country. The tennis component, he added, is intended to support the training of Filipino players competing on the international stage, including rising star Alex Eala.

BCDA is targeting completion of the sports complex by next year.

According to Bingcang, the site in New Clark City offers strategic advantages for year-round training because of its accessibility and proximity to the Clark International Airport.

He added the facility could attract foreign teams seeking warm-weather training venues during the winter months in temperate countries, while also serving as a recreational hub for residents and workers in surrounding communities.
