PH, Asian Institute of Technology launch 5-year partnership on agricultural innovation

The Philippine government and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) have launched a five-year partnership aimed at boosting agricultural innovation, training experts, and strengthening food security in the Philippines.

The agreement was signed at AIT’s campus in Bangkok by the Department of Agriculture and AIT officials. Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr. said the collaboration will help address key challenges in agriculture such as climate change, limited resources, and pests and diseases.

Under the memorandum of understanding, the two institutions will work together on joint master’s and PhD programs, professional training, research projects, consultancy services, and academic publications.

The partnership also aims to turn research into practical solutions that can help farmers, improve productivity, and promote sustainable farming practices.

Officials said the collaboration will help train more agricultural professionals, strengthen knowledge exchange between the Philippines and Thailand, and support the development of technologies that make farming more resilient.

The initiative will also focus on climate-smart agriculture and better management of natural resources, with the goal of supporting food security in the Philippines and across Southeast Asia.

Both sides said they will closely monitor the partnership to ensure that it delivers concrete benefits to farmers, researchers, and rural communities.
