The National Electrification Administration (NEA) said it already extended P237 million worth of loans to five electric cooperatives (ECs) as of February this year to finance electrification projects.
Data from its Accounts Management and Guarantee Department show that P237.272 million was released to the ECs to support their respective capital expenditure (capex) projects.
The agency said the beneficiaries include Zambales I Electric Cooperative, Pampanga Rural Electric Service Cooperative, Zamboanga del Norte Electric Cooperative, Davao del Sur Electric Cooperative, and Sultan Kudarat Electric Cooperative.
For this year, the NEA has allocated P2.310 billion to support the operations of its partner ECs through the Enhanced Lending Program that offers several financing windows, including rural electrification loans for regular capex, funding for emergency, unplanned capex and disaster resiliency program, calamity loans, concessional loans, renewable energy loans, and working capital loans.
The allocation aims to ensure that electric cooperatives deliver reliable and uninterrupted electricity services to their member-consumer-owners.
Last year, the NEA facilitated P2.8 billion worth of state-funded loans to ECs, a 55.6 percent jump from 2024’s P1.8 billion.
The loans last year also benefited 45 ECs, a 25 percent increase from 2024’s 36 ECs.
The bulk of loans in 2025 equivalent to P1.7 billion or 60.7 percent of the amount provided by NEA for the period were utilized for the capex projects of 34 ECs, 15 of which are in Luzon, 8 in Visayas and 11 in Mindanao.
The NEA supervises 121 ECs nationwide.
The agency regularly monitors distribution system parameters of ECs such as systems loss and reliability, circuit kilometers and substation capacity to ensure that they remain operationally reliant and technically efficient in delivering services.
NEA has also been offering financial assistance to ECs through its enhanced lending program consisting of regular, calamity and concessional loans, stand-by and short-term credit loans, single-digit system loss, renewable energy and modular generator set loans.
