The Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, together with the Stratbase Institute for Strategic and International Studies, held a high-level conference in Makati City to celebrate 70 years of friendship between Japan and the Philippines.
The event took place at The Peninsula Manila and gathered key officials, diplomats, academics, and representatives from various sectors. Among those present were Armed Forces Chief Romeo Brawner Jr., Coast Guard Commandant Ronnie Gil Gavan, and former Supreme Court Justice Antonio Carpio. Finance Secretary Frederick Go delivered remarks via video message.
Japanese Ambassador Kazuya Endo highlighted the strong partnership between the two countries, citing progress in security, economic ties, and cultural exchanges. He said the anniversary is a chance to reflect on shared goals and future cooperation.
Experts from Japan, the Philippines, and Vietnam led discussions on regional security, economic development, and people-to-people connections. The conference emphasized the importance of continued collaboration and dialogue.
Organizers said the event reaffirmed the solid foundation of trust between Japan and the Philippines and aimed to further strengthen their strategic partnership.
