DOE to fast-track 22 renewable energy projects adding 1,471 MW next month

The Department of Energy (DOE) plans to speed up the entry of 22 renewable energy (RE) projects that will add about 1,471 megawatts (MW) of power to the grid by next month.

The DOE said the move aims to ensure a stable and reliable electricity supply for households and businesses, while helping reduce the impact of rising fuel costs amid ongoing global oil market uncertainties.

Most of the projects are already near completion or in final testing. Once operational, they are expected to boost power supply, meet growing demand, and improve grid reliability in the coming months.

Of the total capacity:

 • 12 solar projects will contribute about 1,284 MW

 • 6 hydroelectric plants will add 48.23 MW

 • 2 biomass facilities will provide 38 MW

 • 1 wind project will generate 13.56 MW

 • 1 energy storage system will supply 20 MW

The DOE is working closely with key power sector agencies to resolve any remaining issues in transmission, inspection, and system integration to avoid delays.

Energy Secretary Sharon Garin stressed the urgency of bringing new power capacity online, saying every additional megawatt helps meet demand and protect consumers.

The DOE said it will continue monitoring the projects and coordinating with stakeholders to ensure they are completed on time and meet all technical and safety standards.
