CREC powers Negros solar farm before peak demand

Citicore Renewable Energy Corp. (CREC) has energized its 69-megawatt peak (MWp) Citicore Solar Negros Occidental 2 facility, boosting capacity in the Visayas grid ahead of the anticipated summer demand surge.

The early completion adds much-needed supply at a critical time, when electricity consumption typically spikes due to higher temperatures. By bringing the plant online ahead of schedule, CREC is helping reinforce grid stability during one of the year’s most power-intensive periods.

The project marks another step forward in CREC’s “5 gigawatts in five years” expansion roadmap, highlighting the company’s aggressive push to scale up renewable energy capacity while supporting the government’s broader clean energy transition.

“This project’s early delivery demonstrates our ability to provide dependable capacity when the system needs it most,” said Oliver Tan, CREC president and chief executive officer.

“As one of our largest solar developments in the Visayas, it reflects our strategy to expand beyond Luzon while strengthening energy security across the region.”
