Philippine seasonal crafts post gains at  Ambiente

Philippine seasonal crafts exporters booked stronger sales at Ambiente 2026 in Frankfurt, signaling resilience and rising demand in Europe’s sustainable-luxury segment despite mounting global trade pressures.

Organized by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) under its DESIGNPhilippines program, the country’s delegation generated USD7.08 million in sales—up from USD6.8 million in 2025—marking a 4 percent increase year on year.

The uptick comes amid tighter tariffs, geopolitical tensions, and persistent supply chain cost pressures that have affected nearly half of the exhibitors. Industry players said the gains underscore the sector’s ability to adapt to shifting global trade conditions.

A total of 22 Philippine exhibitors, joined by participants from the Mindanao Trade Expo Foundation and enterprises from the Bicol region, drew buyers from the US, Europe, Japan, and Canada. Seasonal décor led sales, with Albertina’s capiz products securing USD1.2 million in orders and Klassy Collections’ paper designs generating USD230,000.

Other products that gained traction included rattan planters and baskets by 33 Point 3, abaca rugs and bags from Bicol-based producers, and capiz lighting by Robles Heritage. These items attracted interest from international retailers such as Anthropologie, TJX Companies, Mackenzie-Childs, and World Market.

“The Philippines’ steady growth in Ambiente validates CITEM’s belief in the capacity of Filipino manufacturers to remain agile and globally competitive, despite uncertainties in the international market,” said CITEM Executive Director Leah Pulido Ocampo.

She added that while scaling up high-volume production remains a challenge, the country continues to stand out through product development, material innovation, and cohesive design narratives.

CITEM said it will sustain momentum by deepening regional participation and sharpening market intelligence efforts, as it seeks to further position Philippine crafts as a benchmark for sustainable design and export competitiveness.
