Aboitiz unit upgrades Laguindingan airport airside facilities

Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. (AIC) has completed a series of upgrades to the airside facilities of Laguindingan International Airport to improve safety, efficiency, and reliability of operations.

The airside, a restricted area where aircraft arrive and depart, received enhancements such as clearer apron markings to guide aircraft and ground personnel. These updates aim to streamline aircraft movement and reduce delays.

Additional Foreign Object Debris (FOD) bins were also installed across the airside to help keep the area free of loose materials, reducing risks during takeoff and landing.

According to Rafael M. Aboitiz, AIC vice president and head of Airports, the improvements—though not visible to passengers—are key to ensuring smoother and more reliable flights.

The upgrades build on recent runway works, including surface repairs, rubber removal, and repainting of apron bollards and pedestrian lanes.

AIC Airports, which also manages Bohol-Panglao International Airport and Mactan-Cebu International Airport, is carrying out broader modernization projects under government-awarded concession agreements starting 2025.

The company said these efforts are part of a long-term plan to improve airport services, boost tourism, and support economic growth, with its network serving about 16 million passengers by the end of 2025.
