DP World revives Sendai link for Philippine trade

DP World is strengthening supply chain efficiency between Japan and the Philippines for Ichijo Komuten Co., Ltd. by leveraging a revived direct shipping route that improves the flow of prefabricated housing materials.

The initiative centers on CMA CGM’s JP8 service, a weekly connection linking Sendai to key Philippine ports. Launched on March 18, the service marks the first regular international shipping link between Sendai and the Philippines in eight years, boosting reliability and cutting transit times for construction components.

The route calls at Manila South Harbour and Batangas Integrated Port, both operated by DP World’s local partner, Asian Terminals Inc.. The ports serve as key gateways supporting bilateral trade.

The enhanced connectivity underpins Ichijo’s Philippine operations, where it manufactures prefabricated housing components for export to Japan.

Production is handled by House Research Development, while logistics and procurement are managed by Nihon Sangyo.

Demand for prefabricated housing continues to rise across the Asia-Pacific region, making efficient cross-border logistics increasingly critical.

By combining direct maritime routes with integrated logistics services, DP World enables a smoother end-to-end supply chain—from port arrival to production and final delivery.

Its Manila and Batangas terminals are supported by inland and marine transport solutions that help reduce congestion, shorten delivery times, and improve cargo visibility.

In Japan, the company also facilitates domestic cargo movement to regional ports, ensuring coordination across origin and destination points.

Glen Hilton, CEO and managing director for Asia Pacific at DP World, said the partnership highlights the firm’s ability to deliver tailored, reliable logistics solutions that support customer growth and evolving market demand.
