Gov’t pushes green aviation: CAAP accelerates shift to sustainable fuel

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is stepping up efforts to adopt sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) as part of its push to reduce carbon emissions in the aviation sector.

SAF can cut aviation emissions by 65 percent to 80 percent and can be blended with regular jet fuel without requiring changes to aircraft engines.

The Philippines is seen as well-suited for SAF production due to its strong agricultural industry, especially rice and coconut farming, whose waste materials can be converted into fuel.

CAAP director general Raul L. Del Rosario said the agency is committed to making SAF more accessible through partnerships with government, industry, and private groups.

The initiative supports the broader agenda of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez to promote cleaner aviation, create jobs, and strengthen the country’s role in sustainable aviation.
