Jobin-SQM Inc. (JSI), part of Nickel Asia Corp.’s clean energy unit Emerging Power Inc. (EPI), has handed over P4.44 million to the Peninsula Electric Cooperative (Penelco) to fund the expansion of power lines in Bataan.
The project will extend distribution lines in Limay, particularly in Sitio Duale and Sitio Daang Bangka, aiming to improve electricity access and stabilize the local power grid for rural communities.
Noel Raza, EPI operations head, said the funding reflects the company’s commitment to benefit its host communities. Raymond Joseph Marqueses, EPI head of trading and sales, added that the project will support local development and improve residents’ quality of life.
Penelco assured that the funds will go directly toward constructing primary and secondary lines to bring reliable electricity to previously underserved households.
EPI is also expanding its overall capacity, targeting 458 MW by the end of the year, up from 293 MW in 2025, with new solar projects planned in Zambales and Leyte. Among its current operations is a 172 MW solar plant in Subic under JSI.
