Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. is strengthening its push for infrastructure development in Mindanao through deeper public-private partnerships, highlighting the role of regional airports in driving economic expansion.
At an investment dialogue in Cagayan de Oro organized by the Oro Chamber of Commerce and the Mindanao Development Authority, government and private sector leaders discussed ways to accelerate investments and improve connectivity across the region.
“We will strengthen public-private partnerships and empower local governments to fast-track investment-ready projects,” said MinDA Chairperson Leo Tereso Magno, noting Mindanao’s position as an increasingly attractive destination for investors.
A key focus of the discussions was Laguindingan International Airport, operated by Aboitiz InfraCapital Laguindingan Airport Corp. The gateway plays a central role in connecting Northern Mindanao to major domestic routes and has seen rising passenger traffic in recent years.
Transportation Secretary Giovanni Banoy Lopez said collaboration remains critical. “Strong partnerships between government and the private sector can help ensure that our airports keep pace with growing demand,” he said.
Aboitiz InfraCapital has introduced improvements at Laguindingan, including upgraded terminal layouts, expanded food and retail offerings, and better transport links to nearby areas. These enhancements aim to improve passenger experience while supporting tourism and local businesses.
Plans for expansion are also moving forward, with the Department of Transportation and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines working with the private sector on upgrades that will allow the airport to handle more passengers and support future international routes.
Similar efforts are being explored for Bohol-Panglao International Airport, where proposed reconfiguration aims to meet growing travel demand.
Analysts said sustained coordination between government agencies and private operators will be important in ensuring timely project execution, especially as Mindanao continues to attract investments and expand its role in the national economy.
