The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Wednesday said the Unified Grand Central Station, or Common Station, is now targeted for completion by the second quarter of 2027.
Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said the delay was caused by the termination of the project’s previous contractor in 2025. The DOTr has since tapped Light Rail Manila Corporation and Sumitomo Corporation to continue the construction.
The contract of BF Corp. and Foresight Development and Surveying Co. was canceled due to prolonged delays. The decision followed an order from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to fast-track the project.
The Common Station project began in 2009 but faced several delays over the years. It resumed progress after a dispute over its location was settled during the term of former Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, leading to its groundbreaking in 2017.
