The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) on Monday said the operators of South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and Muntinlupa–Cavite Expressway (MCX) will implement a toll adjustment starting November 3.
SMC SLEX Inc. has notified the TRB of new charges on motorists traveling from Alabang to Calamba of an additional P10 for Class 1, P20 for Class 2 and P30 for Class 3 vehicles starting Friday, 3 November.
Those travelling from Calamba to Sto. Tomas, Batangas will pay an additional P4, P6, P8 for Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3, respectively.
The TRB on 12 September authorized the collection of the provisional toll rate increase at the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) consistent with approved schedules under the Petitions for Approval of Periodic Toll Rate Adjustments for 2012 and 2014.
The Friday adjustment is the first periodic toll rate adjustment at SLEX since 2011.
Nonetheless, to protect the general welfare, dampen the pressure on inflation and mitigate the impact of the toll rate adjustments, the TRB has directed that the same be implemented in two tranches.
The first tranche applies this year, and the second tranche by next year.
The TRB also granted provisional toll rate adjustments at MCX also under the Petitions for Approval of Periodic Toll Rate Adjustments for 2018 and 2020 filed by Ayala Corporation.
But the TRB said the provisional toll rate adjustments be implemented on staggered basis to help ease its impact on inflation that has already forced the policy-making monetary board of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to signal higher for longer interest rates as a consequence.
The first tranche takes effect this year and the second tranche by next year.
With the adjustments, Class 1 motorists will be charged an additional P1 from the current toll of P17, while Class 2 pay P2 more from the current toll of P37.
For Class 3, the MCX will impose a P3 increase from the current toll of P55.
