Aklan wind power project secures BOI incentives

PetroEnergy Resources Corp. (PERC) subsidiary PetroWind Energy Inc. (PWEI) has secured fiscal incentives from the Board of Investments (BOI) for its 13.2-megawatt (MW) Nabas-2 wind power project in Aklan.

PWEI is jointly owned by PERC which has a 20 percent stake, by PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC) which has 40 percent and the remaining 40 percent held by Thai firm BCPG Wind Cooperatief UA.

Ceferino Rodolfo, BOI managing head and Department of Trade and Industry undersecretary, said the hope is that the company will register more renewable energy projects over and above the P2.57 billion wind power project it manages at present.

“We welcome BOI’s approval of the Nabas-2 incentives registration as it will boost the power generation capacity of our service contract block, thus contributing to DOE’s goal of making western Visayas a renewable energy hub,” said PGEC president and CEO Francisco Delfin Jr.

“PWEI’s additional investment will also lead to more concrete benefits to our host communities – jobs generation, taxes and royalty remittances, enhanced business and eco-tourism opportunities for the locality, and more clean power supply to households and industries in the Visayas among others,” he added.

The Nabas-2 project straddles the towns of Nabas and Malay in northern Aklan and south of the existing 36-megawatt Nabas-1 wind power plant which has been generating power since 2015.

PERC’s power projects include the 32-megawatt Maibarara geothermal power plant in Batangas and the 70-megawatt  Tarlac solar power project.

Its recent expansions include setting up the Rizal Green Energy Corp. which will hold and develop solar projects in Bohol, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan and Isabela.

PGEC also acquired this year from the Department of Energy new offshore wind blocks in northern Luzon, northern Mindoro and eastern Panay.
