NLEX Corp. seeks additional toll from Connector Road users

NLEX Corp. has filed a petition at the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) seeking adjustments on toll rates at the NLEX Connector Road with the completion of the construction of a new section of the toll road.

“We already filed the petition. As we speak, it is being evaluated by the TRB. It is an additional toll because we added an additional section,” J. Luigi Bautista, president and general manager of NLEX, said.

The NLEX Connector from España to Magsaysay was opened to the public on 28 October this year in time for the surge of motorists during the long Undas and barangay election weekend.

The opening of the additional 1.8-kilometer four-lane (2×2) NLEX Connector section from España to Magsaysay will help ease traffic congestion in Metro Manila, especially in major thoroughfares such as EDSA and C5.

Apart from cutting the travel time from C3 in Caloocan to Magsaysay Boulevard in Manila to just 8 minutes, it is seen to ease the traffic conditions at the Nagtahan, G. Araneta, Aurora Blvd, Lacson, Magsaysay and España Blvd. It will also help improve accessibility of motorists travelling from Manila, San Juan, and nearby cities.

In 2 August, NLEX started charging motorists for the use of the NLEX Connector from 5th Avenue in Caloocan City to España Boulevard in Manila.

For Class 1 vehicles, NLEX charges P86, for Class 2, P215 and for Class 3, P302.

In total, the NLEX Connector has three interchanges located in C3 Road/5th Avenue in Caloocan, España and Magsaysay Blvd. in Manila.

NLEX earlier posted net income of  P7.07 billion in the January to September period, higher than only P5.72 billion in the same period last year.

NLEX revenue amounted to P15.67 billion, up 20 percent from P13.1 billion in the same period last year due to higher traffic volume and the impact of toll rate adjustments implemented in June 2023.

NLEX said all vehicle toll rates posted double-digit growth in revenue with Class 1 revenue growing by 18 percent, Class 2 by 26 percent, and Class 3 by 18 percent.

As of end-September this year, the average daily traffic at NLEX reached 321,384 daily vehicle entries, higher than 2022 figures by 15 percent. The average daily traffic at SCTEX reached 77,878 daily vehicle entries or 10 percent above last year’s figures covering the same nine-month period.

Average daily traffic for the Connector Road Section 1 averaged 12,000 vehicles per day.
