The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) has completed the distribution of 141 units of excavators worth an aggregate P776 million.
The NIA said distributing the machines to the various regional and project offices nationwide should help make the operation and maintenance of irrigation projects more productive and efficient.
The agency said the units will be used for the desilting and clearing of irrigation canals, fill up open spaces and gaps along canal linings, construct and repair damaged irrigation facilities and structures, especially those devastated by natural disasters and calamities.
The NIA said the equipment acquisition is in line with the objective of ensuring the efficient and effective operation and maintenance of irrigation systems and part of the three-year re-fleeting program augmenting available units that mostly have exceeded their economic life, as well as to immediately repair or reconstruct canals and other irrigation facilities and undertake the regular operation and maintenance of national irrigation systems.
