Telco fortifies its 4G LTE infrastructure in Mindanao

Globe Telecom said on Thursday it invested heavily in Mindanao in 2023 adopting advanced technology and building new infrastructure to enhance connectivity across the region.

The Ayala-led telco said it built 276 new sites and 2,509 upgrades to its 4G LTE facilities throughout 2023 which were critical in revving up development in the region long stunted by conflict and poverty.

“With Mindanao’s growing economy and the government’s commitment to infrastructure, we in Globe remain consistent in optimizing our network services to provide the backbone for the region’s digital journey,”  Joel Agustin, senior vice president and head of Network Planning and Engineering at Globe, said.
“Our strategic expansions in Mindanao are aimed at enhancing connectivity, which is essential for fostering growth and uplifting communities in the region,” he added.

Mindanao, known for its rich resources and potential, is transitioning into a key economic hub, with the government pouring significant investments on high-impact infrastructure projects. Seventy-six of the 194 high-impact government infrastructure projects are located in Mindanao, according to the  Department of Finance.

Complementing the government-led initiatives, Globe’s network activities empower the region with improved access to digital services, foster economic opportunities and enhance the quality of life of its residents.

Globe supports Mindanao’s digital transformation by offering a robust platform for innovation and connectivity.

Its network boost in Mindanao aligns with the region’s plan to foster a competitive economy through enhanced physical and digital infrastructure.

Globe set aside 91 percent of its $1.3 billion capital expenditure in 2023 in fortifying its data infrastructure, ensuring the network is both resilient and future-ready.

It commissioned 1,217 new sites and upgraded 8,226 existing infrastructure to 4G LTE technology across the country.
