PLDT Home remains unshaken by telco competition, continues dominance

PLDT Home, the fiber-to-the-home unit of PLDT Inc., sustained its leadership in the broadband industry, eclipsing competition on a number of metrics, and elevating customer experience by introducing innovative products for the home.

The PLDT unit accounted for more than half the industry’s fiber-only revenues, posting P53.0 billion in 2023 that grew at a market leading pace of 9 percent. PLDT Home also plans to grow its fiber footprint this year to reach more households and barangays as it pushes connectivity in greenfield areas.

The broadband unit of PLDT continued to dominate the market, accounting for 50 percent of the total fiber-to-the-home industry customers with 3.2 million fiber customers as of end-2023.

“Our goal is clear: we want to further elevate the experience of our customers by providing the best-in-class broadband connection and innovative products and services to more Filipino families. We plan on leveraging our multiple technologies and tailor-fitted packages to enable connectivity to every home,” said Jeremiah de la Cruz, PLDT senior vice president and head of Consumer Business – Home.

Since 2021, PLDT Home has consistently increased its share of industry revenues to 50.6% as of end-2023. According to de la Cruz, in 2023 alone, PLDT Home accounted for 68 percent of the industry revenue growth, driving the Philippine telco sector forward.

It had an industry-leading average revenue per user of P1,493 which is 11 percent higher compared to the previous year and registering a churn rate of 1.8 percent, better than the industry average of 2 percent. PLDT Home utilized 59 percent of its 6 million ports as it continued its network expansion, sweating its assets to provide better customer service.

PLDT Home is also improving its customer care efforts by ensuring a more proactive approach in dealing with complaints, helping reduce repair and follow-up calls.

The PLDT unit continues to expand its portfolio of offerings and services to meet the different connectivity needs of Filipino households. Following the introduction of the country’s first Gigabit Fiber plans that offer ultrafast, first-world connectivity speeds of up to 10Gbps, PLDT Home is unveiling its Always On service.

A first in the industry, the new Always-On broadband service delivers uninterrupted connectivity for PLDT Home customers. By leveraging on PLDT’s fastest fixed infrastructure and Smart’s robust wireless network, this innovation provides a seamless, ultra high-speed connection ensuring customers 24/7 access for work, study, or entertainment.

“We want to continue to enable our customers to experience a new era of connectivity with technologies that provide them with an unmatched digital experience and speeds at home,” added de la Cruz.

With sustainability as one of the key drivers of PLDT’s business strategy and performance, PLDT Home has been undertaking various initiatives in support of doing business responsibly and promoting the adoption of digital and sustainable lifestyles among customers.

PLDT Home has democratizing access to communications and digital services across various geographic and socio-economic sectors to significantly narrow the digital divide in the country.

“As a staunch champion of sustainability, PLDT Home has been actively taking steps to ensure that our services and operations are generating positive impact to our customers, and at the same time, using its voice and maximizing every platform to enable our customers to embrace sustainable practices at home, and in the digital age,” said PLDT first vice president, chief sustainability officer, and head of Investor Relations Melissa Vergel de Dios.

These initiatives underscore the PLDT group’s commitment to help the Philippines contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
