Transport regulations focus on road safety

Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista told the Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Thursday to work beyond its traditional functions of law enforcement and revenue collection, saying the LTO must actively work to create a safe environment for all road users, including passengers, motorists, and pedestrians.

“Strict law enforcement should lead to responsible drivers, roadworthy vehicles, and safe roads for pedestrians. It should be your daily mantra: Ensure the roads are safe,” Bautista said.

“The higher dimension of our work is raising the level of safety. Every road fatality is one too many. Behind every statistic is a life lost, a family devastated, and a future cut short. This is unacceptable,” he added.

Apart from road safety, the transport chief also directed LTO personnel to be fair and transparent in the discharge of their duties to the public.

“Whether you are involved in vehicle inspections, license issuance, or administrative functions, I urge you to uphold your responsibilities without favor. Be models of professionalism. The public relies on us to execute your duties with fairness and transparency,” Bautista said.

While focusing on improving road safety, streamlining vehicle registration, and licensing processes, the LTO Operations Forum also focused on enhancing service delivery and integrating technology for better transportation management.
