GCash Expands Reach in the UK and Europe with International Bank Link Feature

GCash, the country’s leading finance super app and largest cashless ecosystem, is expanding its international presence with the launch of a new feature allowing overseas Filipinos in the UK and Europe to link their international bank account to their GCash wallet. The service, which began this month, is expected to streamline cross-border financial transactions for the growing Filipino communities in these regions.

“Many Filipinos have chosen Europe and the United Kingdom as their home. GCash hopes to provide for their needs and help them connect with their loved ones, as a trusted digital finance partner made for Filipinos, by Filipinos,” said Paul Albano, GCash International general manager.

This development comes as GCash continues to strengthen its partnerships with global payment networks. Thunes, a global cross-border payments company, is expanding its collaboration with GCash to enhance digital wallet top-ups. According to Floris de Kort, Thunes CEO, the partnership will deliver an instant, seamless top-up service through Thunes’ Direct Global Network.

“Through Thunes’ Direct Global Network, we are now delivering an instant top-up service that simplifies cross-border transactions. Our alliance with GCash is a testament to our passion for innovation, the versatility of our proprietary network, and our dedication to financial inclusion through money movement around the world,” de Kort said.

The launch of the UK/EU Bank Cash-In feature, alongside other partnerships with international remittance companies, is a major step in GCash’s goal of driving digital financial inclusion. The initiative aims to ensure that Filipinos, regardless of their location, socioeconomic status, or gender, have access to convenient financial services.

GCash’s global expansion comes as the company continues to solidify its position as the Philippines’ first and only USD5 billion unicorn, bolstered by new investments from Japan’s Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) and Philippine conglomerate Ayala Corporation.

“At GCash, we prioritize finance for all Filipinos whether they are in the Philippines or abroad. We know our countrymen in Europe and the UK work hard to provide for their families back home,” Albano said. “We want to make their lives easier by looking for more convenient ways to help them send money back to their families.”
