Smart Communications bets big on 5G for future growth

Smart Communications, Inc. is ramping up its 5G network expansion as part of a strategic push to enhance customer experience and boost revenue ahead of 2025. The company’s chief operating officer, Anastacio R. Martirez, emphasized the importance of both expanding network coverage and ensuring seamless service for consumers. “Our network should be where people live, work, play, and travel,” he said, underscoring Smart’s commitment to delivering world-class experiences for Filipinos.

To support the 5G rollout, Smart has launched new sites in key areas like the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, and introduced affordable 5G devices such as the Smart ZTE A75 5G and TNT Panalo Phone 5G, priced under P5,000. These moves aim to make 5G technology more accessible to a broader segment of the population.

The company’s investments are already paying off, with mobile data revenue growing by 5 percent to P55.2 billion in the first nine months of the year. This surge is largely driven by Smart’s mobile data offerings, including Power All and Doble Data plans, and the increased capacity from new and upgraded LTE sites.

Smart’s efforts come as part of PLDT Group’s broader strategy to integrate its 5G and fiber infrastructure, ensuring a top-tier customer experience nationwide. With its network covering 97 percent of the population, Smart is poised to maintain its lead in the competitive Philippine telecom market.
