Senator Gatchalian: P88B tax lost due to fake PWD IDs

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian said fake PWD cards cost the government P88 billion tax revenues last year. The chair of the Senate Ways and Means Committee said changes to the physical IDs of persons with disabilities and putting online the national database to allow merchants to check the PWD cards’ authenticity could plug the loopholes that led to the massive revenue bleed. PWDs are entitled to 20 percent discounts on goods and services as well as value-added taxes. He said there are an estimated 8.5 million fake PWD IDs.-0-
