Smart and DepEd empower students with free access to online learning tools

Smart Communications Inc. has teamed up with the Department of Education (DepEd) and Khan Academy to provide free online education for Filipino students. In this landmark partnership, Smart subscribers will enjoy free data access to Khan Academy’s wide range of educational resources, from math to science and the humanities. The initiative aims to bridge learning gaps and make education more accessible, especially for students in remote areas.

“Smart has always advocated for the right of every Filipino child to quality education,” said Kristine A. Go, senior vice president for Wireless Consumer Business at Smart. The collaboration offers free, localized content on Khan Academy, with Smart prepaid users receiving up to 5GB of data per week and postpaid subscribers getting up to 10GB per month.

Education secretary Juan Edgardo Angara lauded the partnership, emphasizing its role in integrating technology into the Philippine education system. Smart’s extensive 5G network coverage, reaching 97 percent of the population, further enhances the initiative’s accessibility, making it easier for students to learn anytime, anywhere.

This collaboration also builds on Smart’s ongoing efforts, such as the PLDT and Smart-backed School-in-a-Bag, to address educational needs in hard-to-reach areas. The DepEd is also adopting the CVIF-DLP to combat learning loss in communities affected by disasters and conflict.

This effort is a key step in advancing inclusive education and supporting the country’s digital future.
