GCash partners with Ria Money Transfer to simplify remittances for Filipinos abroad

GCash, the Philippines’ top finance app and largest cashless ecosystem, has announced a new partnership with Ria Money Transfer, one of the world’s largest cross-border money transfer services, to enhance the convenience and affordability of sending remittances for Filipinos around the globe.

Under the agreement, Filipinos residing in the United States, Australia, Singapore, and Europe can now directly send funds to their families’ GCash wallets—eliminating the need for a dedicated GCash Overseas account. With Ria’s vast network of 507,000 locations across 160 countries, this collaboration ensures that millions of Filipinos abroad can quickly and easily remit money home.

Paul Albano, GCash’s International general manager, emphasized that this move is part of the company’s broader strategy to expand its international footprint by partnering with global remittance providers. “We’re continuing to strengthen partnerships around key corridors to help Filipinos wherever they may be. Our growing presence in Ria’s money transfer locations worldwide reflects our commitment to grow alongside them,” Albano said.

Steve Peregrino, Ria Money Transfer’s regional director of business development, shared his enthusiasm about the collaboration. “We look forward to working closely with GCash to connect families and friends across the globe. Our shared vision is to bridge connections among Filipinos worldwide and facilitate seamless financial transactions,” Peregrino said.

The partnership also aligns with GCash’s goal to contribute to the Philippines’ economic growth through remittances. In 2023, remittances accounted for 8.5 percent of the nation’s GDP, according to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

“This partnership helps to empower Filipinos both here and abroad, supporting their financial needs and aspirations,” Albano added. “It’s all part of GCash’s mission to make financial services accessible for all, wherever they may be, so Filipinos can thrive every day, plan for the future, and prepare for their dreams.”

This collaboration represents a significant step in GCash’s ongoing efforts to strengthen financial inclusion and meet the needs of Filipino families worldwide.
