The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on Thursday reported a 48 percent reduction in aviation-related accidents in 2024 compared to the previous year.
The most notable milestone was the absence of fatalities in 2024 that highlighted the CAAP’s commitment to enhance the safety and security of the nation’s air transport system. In total, accidents dropped from 13 in 2023 to just 4, while serious incidents fell from 6 to 4, marking a substantial improvement in overall aviation safety.
This progress was exclusively seen in general aviation and training flights, with commercial aviation remaining accident-free and continuing to maintain its perfect safety record with zero fatalities. CAAP credits the success to a combination of stringent safety programs, enhanced oversight of aviation operations, and collaborative efforts with industry stakeholders.
“We have been strict in providing oversight to air operators, certificate holders, airlines, approved training organizations (ATO), and maintenance organizations (AMO),” said CAAP director general and captain Manuel Antonio Tamayo. “We tightened the oversight, and it paid off.”
The authority’s focus on advanced pilot training, the adoption of modern safety technologies, and proactive safety standards have been central to these improvements. Looking ahead, CAAP remains dedicated to maintaining these high safety standards, reinforcing public trust, and driving further innovation in the sector.
As the aviation industry worldwide continues to recover and evolve, the Philippines stands out as a leader in safety and a model for other countries to follow.
