In a significant step toward environmental sustainability, telecom giant Globe is rolling out eco-friendly SIM cards to its Globe Prepaid and TM customers—who make up over 96 percent of its mobile user base. Previously launched for postpaid users in 2022, these SIM cards are made entirely from recycled plastic, marking a shift away from virgin plastic and reinforcing Globe’s commitment to responsible consumption and climate action.
The company’s expanded use of ecoSIMs supports the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 12 and SDG 13), tackling both production waste and carbon emissions. “Sustainability is at the heart of what we do,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe chief sustainability and corporate communications officer, highlighting the company’s ongoing push to embed green practices across its operations.
Eric Tanbauco, head of Globe’s consumer mobile business, noted that the initiative invites customers to join the movement toward a greener Philippines. The ecoSIM rollout aligns with growing consumer demand—especially among Gen Z—for brands that demonstrate real environmental accountability.
Globe’s broader green agenda includes renewable energy adoption, electric vehicles, and green network solutions. By making ecoSIMs widely accessible and cost-free for users, Globe and TM demonstrate that sustainability and affordability can go hand in hand, enabling millions of Filipinos to make environmentally conscious choices through everyday mobile use.
