PH cities shine globally in Bloomberg Mayors Challenge

Naga City, Pasig City, and Cauayan in Isabela have been named global finalists in the 2025 Bloomberg Mayors Challenge. They join 47 other cities worldwide selected for ideas that aim to improve how local governments serve their people.

The Bloomberg Mayors Challenge is a global competition that supports city leaders in testing new approaches to common urban problems. This year’s entries focus on areas such as sustainability, public health, job creation, and basic services.

Liveable Cities Philippines, the local partner of Bloomberg Philanthropies, congratulates the three cities for their thoughtful, practical proposals that respond to real needs on the ground.

“These recognitions show that cities in the Philippines are thinking ahead and acting on the challenges they face,” said Guillermo M. Luz, chairman of Liveable Cities Philippines. “Local leaders are closest to the people. When given the space and support, they find ways to solve problems and improve lives, he added.”

Each of the 50 finalists will receive expert support over the next few months to develop their ideas further. Twenty five cities will be selected in early 2026 to receive $1 million each to implement their projects.

Liveable Cities Philippines will continue working with Naga, Pasig, and Cauayan as they prepare for the next round of the challenge and further develop their proposals.
