The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced Monday that the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board of the National Capital Region has approved a P50 increase in the daily minimum wage for workers in Metro Manila.
Under the newly issued wage order, the minimum daily wage for non-agricultural workers in the region will rise to P695 from P645. Agricultural workers will see their daily rate increase to P658 from P608.
The adjustment—the largest ever approved by the NCR wage board—will take effect on July 18.
This regional wage hike follows the failure of Congress to pass a national legislated wage increase, which sought to provide a broader P200 daily wage hike for workers across the country. While the approved NCR increase falls short of that figure, labor department said it reflects a compromise shaped by current economic indicators and consultations with labor, employer, and government sectors.
