Philippine fintech firm GCash has launched Tap to Pay, a new contactless payment feature that allows users to make transactions by simply tapping their NFC-enabled Android phones on Mastercard-accepting terminals worldwide.
The feature, powered by Alipay+ in collaboration with Mastercard, provides GCash users with secure, convenient payment access at over 150 million locations globally, expanding beyond the platform’s existing QR code payment system.
GCash president and CEO Ren-Ren Reyes said the innovation reinforces the company’s mission to build an inclusive, cashless ecosystem. “With Tap to Pay, we’re empowering Filipinos with a seamless and globally competitive solution that is locally relevant and universally accessible,” Reyes added.
The new feature eliminates the need for a physical card or cash, making it easier for users to pay in-store both locally and internationally. It complements GCash’s current QR code payments accepted in over 50 destinations.
Douglas Feagin, president of Ant International, hailed GCash as a pioneer in digital payments and one of the first to adopt Alipay+ NFC global payment capabilities. He emphasized the growing trend of interoperability between e-wallets and card systems as key to the future of global payments.
